Aquaponics System Designs Are Available In Many Different Sizes
Aquaponics Design lovers may not be aware of an alternative way to enjoying their fish. An Aquaponics System Designs is another system that allows us to enjoy fish while having the additional benefit of growing plants together with raising fish. This system offers both an educational and aesthetically pleasing dimension to one’s home life.
Aquaponics System Designs – The Sustainable System
In a sustainable system tank raised fish will have their water pumped to the plants. The ammonia in the water is converted by the bacteria to nitrates. This is harmless to the fish and plants. This clean water is returned to the fish tank and ensures their longevity for much longer timeframes.
This is a sustainable system where the water that is being continually fertilized organically is re-used in the system. One can grow decorative plants or vegetables and herbs such as basil that grows year round. The aquarium fish can consist of ornamental fish such as goldfish or tilapia. Yellow perch, or freshwater prawns to name a few can also be grown for human consumption.
This is a system that can be easily be built by the do it yourself person who is handy with tools. It is possible to build the Commercial Aquaponics System Design fish tank with a basic knowledge of assembling some simple pieces of equipment. The project is quite affordable and fun to construct alone or with the whole family. This is an opportunity to make significant savings on food while integrating an organic food source into one’s diet.
One need only purchase a 3-20 gallon fish tank, gravel, some pumps, a grow bed, plastic tubing, a pH test kit and fish and plants. The pea gravel sits in the grow bed that rests on top of the tank. It serves as a growth medium where the roots of the plants reach into the nutrient rich water. Other kinds of suitable gravel include packing foam, perilite, vermiculite and lava rock.
Many companies have commercialized on this basic symbiotic system. Mobile kits have also been patented so that they can easily be taken to different locations around the world. Some models incorporate a vertical growth system which take less space in limited surroundings. The tiered system can be constructed along walls and allows for a greater volume of plants to be cultivated.
Aquaponics System Designs – Stabilize The Aquatic Environment
Some basics in maintenance do need to be considered such as keeping an eye on the pH level of the water. This should be at 7-8 so that the fish will have the greatest chance of survival. The water temperature should also be kept constant and it is recommended that one stabilize the aquatic environment a few weeks prior to placing them in the Aquaponics System Designs. Otherwise the adjustment for the fish might be too difficult.
The Aquaponics System Designs can be set up both indoors and outdoors. Suitable plants for growing include peppers, peas, lettuce and spinach. Herbs such as sage and oregano do well and fruits such as strawberries and tomatoes do equally well. Most garden varieties of flowers will also thrive in this type of environment. The constant warm water bathing of the roots makes for happier plants and tastier food.
